The ATHX format
2.5 hours of continuous competition across six zones: Warm-Up (30 min), Strength (20 min), Refuel (10 min), Endurance (30 min), Recovery (30 min) and MetCon X (30 min). The three workouts are the same at every event of the 2026 season, so you can train them well in advance.
This season's three workouts
- Strength (20 min): 1RM Strict Press (minutes 0-6), 3RM Back Squat (minutes 6-12) and 5RM Deadlift (minutes 12-20). Your score is the total weight lifted.
- Endurance (22-minute time cap): alternating running and rowing. Individual athletes switch every 750 m in ATHX and every 1,000 m in Pro. In Pairs, each run is 500 m in Lite, 750 m in ATHX and 1,000 m in Pro. Your score is the total distance covered.
- MetCon X (25-minute time cap): Ski-Erg, dumbbell Ground to Overhead, Sandbag Carry, Box Jump Overs, dumbbell Walking Lunges, Burpee Broad Jumps and a final Ski-Erg block. Your score is your finish time. In Lite, Box Jump Overs can be done as step-overs and the lunges are bodyweight.
Categories and pricing
The ATHX Finals offer three competition levels, ATHX Lite, ATHX and ATHX Pro, in Individual and Pairs format (male, female and mixed). At the Finals, ATHX Lite is open to Pairs only.
- Individual entry: £93.50
- Pairs entry: £187.00
The organisation is also looking for volunteers on the day.
How to qualify
Finals places are earned at ATHX events throughout 2026. In ATHX Lite, Pro and ATHX Pairs, the top 4 pairs per event in each of the female, male and mixed categories qualify. In ATHX and ATHX Pro Individual, the top 4 athletes per event in the male and female categories qualify, and there are extra spots for several age groups. Invited athletes have 7 days from the invitation to confirm their place and buy their entry, otherwise the spot rolls down to the next eligible athlete or pair on the event leaderboard.
Get ready for Lisbon with Velites
First, check what gear is allowed. The official ATHX 2026 movement standards do not allow lifting straps or hand grips of any kind during competition. Wrist wraps, a single pair of knee sleeves, a weightlifting belt, weightlifting shoes and your own chalk are all allowed in the strength zone.
For competition day:
- Knee sleeves, for the 3RM Back Squat and the Walking Lunges, where your back knee has to touch the floor on every step.
- Wrist wraps, to keep your wrists stable on the 1RM Strict Press and every Ground to Overhead rep.
- Hybrid 1.0 and Minimal 1.0 shoes, built to move between running, strength and metcon without changing footwear.
For your training block: Quad Ultra hand grips and weightlifting straps help you build barbell and pulling volume without tearing up your hands. Use them in the box and leave them in your bag on event day.
Lisbon: more than just fitness
- Oceanário de Lisboa: the city's large aquarium in Parque das Nações, the same district as the venue.
- Belém Tower: the riverside landmark of Lisbon's Belém area, a classic stop if you stay an extra day.
- Alfama: the old quarter of narrow streets and viewpoints, ideal for a slow recovery walk.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the ATHX Finals 2026 take place?
At The Lisbon Exhibition and Congress Centre, Rua do Bojador, Parque das Nações, Lisboa, Portugal 1998-010. Check the information the organisation sends to registered athletes to confirm the exact hall within the venue.
Are The Lisbon Exhibition and Congress Centre and FIL the same place?
Yes. FIL stands for Feira Internacional de Lisboa, the venue's Portuguese name, and ATHX uses both names for it.
How do I get from the airport to the venue?
The venue lists Lisbon Airport among its access points, and ATHX points to Oriente station as the key connection, served by train, city bus, express bus, taxi and the Metro Red Line. Plan your journey from the airport to Oriente station with your preferred journey planner, and note that there are taxi ranks at Oriente station and at the Vasco da Gama shopping centre.

You can wear wrist wraps, one pair of knee sleeves, a weightlifting belt and weightlifting shoes. If you want to compete in gloves, check with the organisation first, since they are not on the list of allowed gear.
Are there more ATHX events in Europe in 2026?
The Finals are the last event of the 2026 season and the only ATHX event in Portugal this year. ATHX Amsterdam (7 November, RAI Amsterdam) takes place three weeks earlier, on the same day as ATHX Los Angeles (Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center).
Is there an ATHX event in Lisbon in 2027?
Yes. ATHX Lisbon takes place on 26-27 June 2027 at the Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL). The 2027 season comes with its own workouts and movement standards, so this guide only applies to the 2026 Finals.
